Rust-Oleum® EpoxyShield® Blacktop Coating – 7.58 L
Restore and protect worn or faded asphalt with Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Blacktop Coating. This ready-to-use, water-based advanced acrylic coating is made with recycled rubber tyres, rolls on like paint and cleans up with soap and water. It leaves a long-lasting jet-black finish and can be ready for vehicle traffic in as little as four hours under suitable drying conditions.

Coverage
Practical coverage: approximately 37–56 m² per 7.58 L pail (400–600 sq ft), depending on the condition and porosity of the asphalt and the applied film thickness. Badly worn asphalt may require a second coat for a more uniform appearance.
Do not apply too heavily: excessive film thickness can cause peeling.
Before you start
- New asphalt must cure for at least six months or one full summer season before coating.
- Clean away all dirt, debris, oil and grease. Trim back grass and weeds from the driveway edges.
- Scrape cracks and holes clean with a screwdriver or wire brush, then sweep thoroughly with a stiff broom.
- Use a suitable blacktop cleaner/degreaser on heavy oil or grease contamination, rinse thoroughly with fresh water and allow the surface to dry.
- Repair major cracks and holes before coating. Follow the repair product instructions and allow repairs to cure as directed.
Application conditions
- Apply when air and surface temperatures are 10–32°C.
- The surface temperature must not exceed 38°C.
- Do not apply if rain is forecast within 48 hours.
- Do not use when surrounding air or surface temperatures fall below 4°C.
- Avoid direct sunlight. If the pavement is extremely hot, lightly mist it with water and brush away all puddles before coating.
- Do not dilute or combine with another driveway coating.
How to apply
- Mix thoroughly until all pigment is evenly re-dispersed.
- Cut in driveway edges with a brush.
- Apply directly from the pail using a 9-inch roller with a 10–13 mm (⅜–½ inch) nap cover and extension pole.
- Work in sections of approximately 1.2 × 1.2 m (4 × 4 ft), cross-rolling each section at right angles for even coverage.
- For badly worn asphalt, apply a second coat if needed for a more uniform finish.
Important: Do not pour the coating directly onto the driveway and do not apply it with a squeegee. For steeply sloped areas, Rust-Oleum recommends adding EpoxyShield Anti-Skid Additive to improve traction.
Drying and clean-up
- Foot traffic: approximately 1 hour.
- Vehicle traffic: approximately 4 hours.
- Times are based on 21–27°C and 50% relative humidity; allow longer in cooler or more humid conditions.
- Clean tools immediately after application with warm water and mild detergent.
